Procesos del Santo Oficio de México, 1522-1820 (24 January 1573)
Image 790 of 1073
This film involves various individuals and/or families that were questioned during
the timeframe of the inquistion. The inquisition lasted from 1478 until 1834, and in
Mexico until about 1820. My reading of Latin/Spanish is limited, but gathered from
this page of the document, that on his paternal side of the family:
Joan (Juan) de Renteria listed his father as Joan (Juan) Gonsales de Renteria, and his
grand-parents on his fathers side of the family were Joan (Juan) Sanches de Renteria
and Joana (Juana) de Buytron.
-
On his maternal side of the family:
Joan (Juan de Renteria listed his mother as Maria Ochoa de Villela, but did not list
her abuelos on the maternal side of the family.
-
The document involved the testitmony of a Sancho Diaz de Menchaca of the town of
Plasencia, Viscaya (Spain).  He stated he was a member of the mines, and stated he
had known Joan (Juan) de Renteria since he was a boy. The family lived 1 1/2 Leagues
(about 5 miles) from Plasencia, in the Valley of Vaquio in the Casa de la Renteria.
Sancho stated that he had known Joan (Juan) de Renteria for 40 years and that he was
over 50 years of age.  This places his birth year closer to ca 1523.

It is difficult to follow, but Luiza and Juan appear to have been in Zacatecas for 9 years
(beginning in 1573), and there is mention of 33 years, which could indicate when they
were married or knew each other?

Note:
The Ochoa tree appears to be correct.
The Garza tree has at least one inconsistency, when
campared to the numerous Garza dispensations.
The tree starts with Juan and Margarita de la Garza
being brother sister (true).  Juan de la Garza's side
of the tree appears consistent with other Garza
dispensations.  Margarita is listed as the mother
Catalina Fernandez de Tijerina (only the Tijerina
surname is mentioned in this dispensation). However
many other records note Catalina Fernandez de
Tijerina as the daughter of Beatris Gonzales (aka Garza)
and Gregorio Fernandez de Tijerina.  If Beatris (also a
sibling of Juan de la Garza) is substitued in place of
Margarita, this dispensation appears to be correct.
