3859 | APPENDIX I FIRST LIST OF TITHABLES OF PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, YEAR 1767 Ralph Elkins, Jun. Richard Elkins, 1 tithe. Nathaniel Elkins, son Jessey. James Elkin on leather wood. Jesse Elkins, 1 tithe. Re: Abel Elkins, VA>KY Notes: I really think David, Abel and Nathaniel Elkins are related, butdon'tjust know "how" quite yet. I have many "possible" combinations, but have come up with thefollowing as a starting point: Nathaniel (born about 1726-1735 - From Tithing list Pittsylvania Co.Va) children and *possible children: Jesse (Born about 1746-1753 - estimated from Tithing list) *Abel (Born about 1749-1759) married Jessica (Unknown Surname) *Nathaniel (Born about 1760) Children and *possibles that "could" be from any of the 3 children: David - born ca1779 (some say David was the son of Jesse) Abel - born 1776 (some say Abel was the son of Nathaniel or Abel) Jesse - born abt 1760-1764 married a Hannah Laskey about 1781 (some say he would be the son of Jesse) *Nathaniel - born about 1780? married Rachel Hart in 1798 (This could be the same Nathaniel born in 1760?) I guess this can be confusing, but I believe some of this can be figured out by researching the Pittsylvania and Halifax County, Virginia records. I have yet to really look at these in detail. Also there is a Nathaniel Elkin(s) of King George County, Virginia, married in 1704 to Rebecca (Unknown Surname). This Nathaniel Sr. may have been the father to Nathaniel born about 1726. | Elkins, Nathaniel (I40940)

3868 | Ardith, Thanks for the info. This is getting more interesting all thetime. I have some more questions and will explain why I ask. Iamresearching families who left Rockingham and Caswell Counties,N.C.headed for Kentucky. Many of these families settled in Green Co. Anyone reading this may want to keep this in mind if they have N.C.roots. The will of William Graham in Caswell Co., N.C. names daughter Lidda (Lydda,Lydia) Elmore. The estate settlements name heirs of Peter Elmore. I feel sure Lidda was the wife of Peter Elmore. Now what I don't know is that Lidda may have been married previously to a "Biddlecomb" since you mention that as her name. Where did that surname record come from? It is also possible that Peter Elmore may have been previously married to Polly Graham Elmore who was named in the will of William Graham as a daughter but she was apparently deceased as he mentioned "the heirs of Polly Elmore." So it seems that maybe she died and Peter married her sister who also was previously married. This is all speculation at the moment and needs more study. Now the next thing - Conrad Strader of Caswell Co., N.C. named in his will "Ester Elmore." This is the only record I have found of her name.Several researchers I have been in contact with all name her "Hester." Where did they get this as her name. No one has been able to tell me. So at this point I can only assume her name as "Ester" since she is so named in her father's will. It appears she did have descendants named Hester. Thanks a bunch for your time. | Strader, Ester "Hester" (I50266)

3886 | Arthur Ingram, 6th Viscount of Irvine (21 December 1689 – 30 May 1736), styled the Honourable Arthur Ingram until 1721, was a British landowner and politician. Ingram was the third son of Arthur Ingram, 3rd Viscount of Irvine, by Isabella Machel, daughter of John Machel (or Machell), Member of Parliament for Horsham, of Hills, Sussex.[1] He was returned to Parliament for Horsham in 1715, a seat he held until 1721, when he succeeded his elder brother Richard in the viscountcy.[1][2] This was a Scottish peerage and did not entitle him to an automatic seat in the House of Lords although he was forced to resign his seat in Parliament as Scottish peers were barred from sitting in the House of Commons. In 1728 he was made Lord-Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire, which he remained until his death.[1] Lord Irvine died unmarried in May 1736, aged 46, and was succeeded in the viscountcy by his younger brother, Henry.[1] Family and Education bap. 21 Dec. 1689, 3rd s. of Arthur Ingram, M.P., 3rd Visct. Irwin [S], by Isabella, 1st da. and coh. of John Machell of Hills, Suss., M.P. Horsham 1681-1700, bro. of Hon. Charles and Henry Ingram. educ. Oriel, Oxf. 1706; L. Inn 1706. unm. suc. bro. as 6th Visct. 10 Apr. 1721. Offices Held Ld. lt. Yorks. E. Riding 1728-36. Biography Descended from Sir Arthur Ingram, M.P. (d. 1642), a merchant and official who bought the manor of Temple Newsam and other estates in Yorkshire, the Ingrams acquired by marriage the estate of Hills, near Horsham, at the beginning of the eighteenth century. Returned for Horsham on petition in 1715, Arthur Ingram voted with the Government, except on the septennial bill, which he opposed, possibly because his constituents had petitioned against it.1 He vacated his seat on succeeding to the peerage in 1721. In 1723 he contracted to buy out his chief opponent at Horsham, Charles Eversfield, but was unable to raise sufficient capital to complete the purchase.2 He is described by Lady Mary Wortley Montagu as 'a quite new man, that has a great deal of wit, joined to a diabolical person'.3 He died 26 May 1736. | Ingram, Arthur 6th Viscount of Irvine (I130268)

3890 | As follows: Last Name---First Name---Twp---Range---Sec---Acreage---Date of Sale Brown---Alexander---30--- | 24---31---80---21 May 1839 Dawes Special Case #35. I completely misunderstood this when Ireviewed to the first several times. It looks like a bunch of people, possibly descendents of former slaves, trying to take advantage of thelack of information about Alexander Brown of the Oostanola river in1835. It's finally come together for me at least for some of theseclaimants they were going off of a family story and they aredescendants of Alexander's second family which was large, started inVirginia about 1795, moved to the Oostanola river about 1820, andmoved to Missouri about 1836. #39591, Nancy M. Seadley, b 1852, daughter of John B Brown, granddaughter of Isom Alexander Brown, b c 1814 in Va.Greatgranddaughter of Alexander Brown of the Oostanola river in 1835. #3242, Michael A Pender, b c 1829 in Monroe Co Tn, mother Dicey BrownBoyd, who was b in VA, granddaughter of Alexander Brown who lived inMo for 2 yrs before his death in 1838. Alexander's wife was a whitewoman. #1515, Matila A Courtney, age 66, mother Dicey Brown came to Mo fromTN about 1836, already married. Grandfather went from Ga to Va, thenback to Ga and was enrolled there. #2658, Samuel Z. G. Anglen, b 1850, Polk Co. Mo, mother b1832, PolkCo. Mo, grandfather was Thomas Brown, son of Alexander Brown who was ahalf breed. James Harralson, age 20, afidavit states that Alexander Brown had thefollowing children: Thomas, Isom, John, Jack, Aarah (Hambleton),Dicie, Elizabeth (Ruth), Susan (Proctor), Annis (Pace) and Violet(Ruth). Apparently, Alexander's second family didn't know about his first.(30) | Brown, Isom Alexander (I93422)
