4614 | Date: 18 Jan 1998 23:33:06 GMT From: Tommy E. Graham I am looking for information on the family of JAMES SKAGGS one of theearly pioneers into KY, and founder of Skaggs Station in the Green Riverareaof KY sometime around 1780. I am particulary interested in his granddaughter SALLY GRAHAM(daughterof HENRY SKAGGS), and in BERRY SKAGGS,mentioned as having been"suspendedfor drunkenness" from Brush Creek Baptist Church around 1800. Ibelievethere may be a connection with my ancestors, ELIJAH and SARAH GRAHAM,bothborn in NC in 1760/70, and married about 1785, either in SC or just after moving to KY. I believe they were also connected to the Brush CreekBaptishChurch. Also, can anyone tell me if Rev. Pepper, whose family married intoboththe Skaggs and Grahams, was the minister at Brush Creek? Rev.Peppermarried Berry D. Graham (son of Elijah and Sarah Graham) and Sarah Wrightin1818 in Green Co., KY. Possibly at the Brush Creek Baptish Church??> Tommy E. 4622 | David Porter is listed in the Ray County, Missouri federal Census in 1840. He was located in the Fishing River Township. A number of Odell men were also listed in this census, but Isaac Odell is the likely father of Martha Odell. May be related to the Joseph Porter family who lived in nearby Platte and Clay counties of Missouri. Joseph Porter was born 9 January 1793 in Newport, Jefferson County, Territory South of the Ohio River. Joseph Porter was married 20 December 1822 in Ray County, Missouri to Mary Monroe Gragg. Some records state David was born in Indiana and others Virginia. Indiana did not beome a state until 1816 but was a territory in 1800. 1880 census lists grandson as Henry T, born 1862 and Lucy born 1872 living with Martha Porter who was widowed. 1870 Camden census lists Melcinda (born 1836) living with John Tarwater, children Christian (female - born 1853) and Henry (born 1862) living in this household. Likely that Melcinda is the daughter of John Tarwater. | Porter, David (I22475)

4629 | Dear Calvin, I wanted to talk to you about the Charles Hart reference, in that you have him listed as Chloe Hart's father. I understand that he is named on her marriage bond so many researchers are claiming him as her father. You as well You can change your information on this, becausein the Kentucky pension records summary which I was reading says thatwhen he received his pension ok on Feb. 1, 1833, he was 73 years old, not anything like 90 or 100, so subtracting 73 from 1833, gives his estimated birth as between Feb. 2, 1759 and Feb. 1, 1760, and since Chloe was born in 1765 and married in 1780, he couldn't possibly beher father, but more likely her brother, and because he shows up on her marriage bond, either her father was deceased or wasn't in thecountry. One other thing, I need stronger evidence that Charles H. Shofner is indeed Charles Hart Shofner. This is very important to me, because I'm trying to link my Charles Shofner to "Ole" Henry. It would really help if you have something other than an anonymous book. Bible entry? anything? Did you get my list of 13 reasons which I put down that circumstantially link Charles and Henry, the most compelling would of course be if his name is indeed Charles Hart Shofner and then I would feel confident in going ahead with a DAR application for my mother's first cousin who was 90 this year and belongs in that organization,I'm sure!! Thanks for your reply, Bill Attwood Tucson, Arizona | Hart, Charles (I41605)

4630 | Dear Mr. Ingram, I was very pleased to have stumbled upon your WarrenGeneaologyWebpage. My mind and fingers wandered through it for nearly 4 1/2 hours. Whata massive work you have produced and are willing to share. Thank youeverso much. It has proven invaluable to my quest of searching myfamilyhistory and lineage. I am grafted into the Warren line via Hugh Warren and Lydia Pierc However, I noticed that you did not have my direct connection listed. Genettie/Genette Warren was the dau. of Hugh and Lydia. Lydia wascalledby Hugh and her children as Lettie. The stories that I heard from my grandfather about his grandpa Warren are amazing. Hugh was a verylarge boned man and very stout even up until his death. He had sufferedastroke and although he recovered physically from the stroke, he was alittleworse for the wear on the mental side of things. It took severalpeoplewatching him in order to make sure that he didn't harm himself or others. Butmy grandfather said that his dad, William Vance (a direct decendantofAlexander Vance who is also listed in your geneaology) was on of the peoplewhotook care of him. He said that Grandpa Warren could stand flat footedandjump directly over a 3 1/2 foot fence and once carried a two year oldcowaround his shoulders to the barn in order for her to give birth inside thebarnas opposed to outside in the elements. Several other stories abound...but I digress. Please let me know ifI can provide you any other information about Genette/GenettieWarrenVANCE.
