5230 | From the book: In "Kelwood Bridges the Years" on page 266, their son, Roy, gives us this account of their movement: About 1883 they left Canada and settled at Bottineau, North Dakota, travelling by covered wagon and oxen. I remember Mother and Father telling of the Riel Rebellion and how frightened they were. Bottineau had a fort and one night we were awakened about midnight and told that the Indians were coming. Everyone fled in their night attire, hitched up the horses and rode for the fort. They said you could hear the wagons coming for five miles. They sent scouts out to investigate, who found only an old Indian and his squaw down by a lake. Beatrice and Bert were born in the States. In 1892 theyreturned to the Portage Plains, again travelling by covered wagon; there were no bridges, and had to ford all the rivers. They came to theGlensmith district and settled on the NW 1/4 12-19-15 later the Tremain farm.It was here that my brother Jim and I were born." | Hall, Matilda Ann (I50511)

5237 | From: Tommy E. Graham I am looking for information on the family of JAMES SKAGGS one of theearly pioneers into KY, and founder of Skaggs Station in the Green Riverareaof KY sometime around 1780. I am particulary interested in his granddaughter SALLY GRAHAM(daughterof HENRY SKAGGS), and in BERRY SKAGGS,mentioned as having been"suspendedfor drunkenness" from Brush Creek Baptist Church around1800. I believe there may be a connection with my ancestors, ELIJAH andSARAH GRAHAM, both born in NC in 1760/70, and married about 1785, either inSC or just after moving to KY. I believe they were also connected totheBrush Creek Baptish Church. Also, can anyone tell me if Rev. Pepper, whose family married intoboththe Skaggs and Grahams, was the minister at Brush Creek? Rev.Peppermarried Berry D. Graham (son of Elijah and Sarah Graham) and Sarah Wright in1818in Green Co., KY. Possibly at the Brush Creek Baptish Church??> Tommy E.
