| Hugh is not proven here yet. Only listed as a place holder untilfurtherresearched. I though of placing Hugh with the Hugh Warren/Anne Hesketh family.ButAnne died in 1696 and her son (also named Hugh) died young. I figured; as a start; perhaps one of Hugh Warren's brothers (fromJudgeJohn Warren) passed the name along. I believe that Edward Dinkley Warren's mayhavehad a son named Hugh Warren. Again further research is needed to link thisfamilyfrom MD, VA to England. | Warren, Edward 'Dinkley' (I69040)

| Hugh Warren Stated to the Southern Claims commission in 1878 that he was 40 years of age, and was born in Green County, Indiana. He further stated that he resided in Vernon County, Missouri just prior to the outbreak of the Civil War (Later stated was going to school there and hadn't been there long enough to vote) and remained there until the last of July 1861. He Joined Company "A" of the 1st Missouri Volunteers for 6 months and the independent regiment was organized for the purpose of driving the rebels out of Missouri after the battle of Oak Hill and then disbanded, at which time Hugh Warren came to Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas where he remained working on a farm until March 1862. While in Fayetteville, Arkansas he sent word to his father and brothers who resided in Little Piney, Johnson County, Arkansas that he was in Fayetteville. He Joined the 1st Arkansas Calvary which was in Benton County, Arkansas and remained with the regiment until March 1863. He was rejected by a surgeon from officially joining the regiment, on account of bad health. He still remained with the regiment, scouting for them for about a year beginning in March 1863. His regiment was captured by rebels in April 1863 at the head of the White river in Washington County, Arkansas and then was taken to Ozark, Arkansas and then to Clarksville, Arkansas, where he escaped capture in the latter part of April 1863. He went to Little Piney, 20 miles North of Clarksville, where his Father and Brothers resided. After a few days of rest, He and two brothers John and Michael started to Fayetteville when they got word that it had been captured by the rebels, on which word they returned to Little Piney. They laid out in the mountains until the fall of 1863, with no advance of the rebels. He joined up with General McNeals command in the fall of 1863, traveling from Little Piney, to Clarksville, and then to Fort Smith, Arkansas where he enlisted and was mustered in to the United States Service and served with his company and regiment until the close of the war. | Warren, Hugh (I85664)

| Hugh Warren was in South Carolina by 1770, noted by land patents shown below. The land was located near Wofford's Iron Works and the west side of the Pacolet River in what is currently Chester Co., SC, but was at that time in the 96th district, Spartanburg, SC. The land was originally located on the west side of the Pacelet river, Craven County, South Carolina. The land was sold to a Thomas Warren; documented on 16 February, 1787. Hugh Warren's wife, Sarah agreed to the Sale. This is the only mention of his wife that has been uncovered to date. It is unknown the relationship to Thomas Warren to whom Hugh Warren sold the land to. It was once thought this might be Thomas Hackley Warren; but this is now in question, since there is no direct relationship to the Hackley Warren family through DNA testing. | Sarah (I38820)

| I am not yet convinced that this William Perry Despain or WilliamJosephDespain are both sons of Peter and Nancy [Skaggs] Despain. A couple of items that I haven't seen in Despain genealogy isduplicatefirst names of children. If this information is proven to be correct, then we have two"identical"first name children: 1.) William Joseph Despain, born 19 March 1813 in Green County,Kentucky(Various sources, but the Despain Log Cabin is one) 2.) William Perry Despain, born 2 August 1837 in Green County,Kentucky(again, the Despain Log Cabin is one source) I have not found William Perry DeSpain, son of Peter DeSpain (andagranddaughter), in records that I have gone through, but apparently others have. Those that have come across thisrecordstate that as a minor child, Wiliam D. Skaggs, who was magistrate of Green County, Kentucky and the child's uncle, wasmadehis Guardian. (William D. Skaggs would have been a first cousin, as WilliamDavidSkaggs was the son of David Skaggs) Only one other item that I would hope could be clarified, again, becauseI have not accessed the information. William Perry Despain is listed as born 2 August 1837 in GreenCounty,Kentucky (Rev. War pension abstracts indicate this, although I haven't seen or found a written account of thispensionabstract). His death record has his birth date as 6 August1832, again Ihaven't seen or found a written account of the deathrecord, for all to interpret. Now that I have talked some about William Perry Despain, I move ontoWilliam Joseph Despain. I know even less about him, then I do about William Perry Despain. Anyone haveanyinformation that can support that William Joseph Despain is the sonofPeter Despain. I believe some of the Nebraska Despains had kept family bibles, but I am not sure of this. From Homer Fricken email: Wm Joseph DeSpain's daughter Emma married W. H. Pickens, and aPickensbiog in old Cass Co, Nebr History relates: "Mrs Pickens was born inMcDonoughCo, Illinois, a daughter of William J. DeSpain, who was born in GreenCounty,Ky. March 19, 1812. His father, Peter DeSpain, whose birthplace isunknown, was of French ancestry. He was a Revolutionary soldier (etc)". So here's yet another birthyear for Wm. J.; I have also seen 1815.Heand Peter's son Thomas (who Peter sued for trying to defraud him out ofhisland) may have been twins, as Wm & Thos are usually listed with same dayandmonth of birth, and Thomas followed Wm to Schuyler Co, Mo before settlinginBates Co, Mo. | Despain, William Joseph (I50688)

| I am only vaguely related to the Skaggs family. I am tracing the Lemons/Craig family. A distant relative whose mother was a Skaggs, passed away and the daughter had no interest in genealogy. 5627 | I have researched the Brown-Routh families for more than 25 years. Ican assure you that there is no connection to Alexander Brown andDragging Canoe that can be proven. 271 applications to the GuionMiller Cherokee Rolls were made using Alexander Brown blood line allwere rejected. The only place that the Canoe name was in the 271Applications, John Thomas Brown, grandson of Alexander and VioletBarton-Brown, when asked who his Grandparents were, stated Alexanderand Sarh Canoe-Brown (full blood Indian). I don't know why he saidSarah Canoe as a lad the census show he lived next to his grandmotherViolet Barton-Brown in Missouri. The reason all were rejected, theyconnected Our Alexander to the 1835 Georgia Indian Roll. There was aAlexander Brown, Jr. on that roll, however the ages were to far apartto be our Alexander. Alexander Brown claimed in Missouri that he was1/2 Cherokee and had papers th prove it. That he signed up inTennessee before he moved to Missouri in 1835-36. These papers werenever found. Alexander's brother, Aaron also claimed to be 1/2Cherokee. All of his grandchildren's Indian applicatios were alsorejected. They made their claim through a James Brown who singed someCherokee Treaties in early 1800's. I have been to Alexander's gravenear Brighton, Missouri (Brock Cemetery) I was there with the CherokeeTribe then from Fair Play, Missouri and have some pictures of theIndian Ceremony for Alexander. My wife joined that tribe as theyaccepted Alexander's Indian blood line. My wife comes from Alexander'sdaughter Sarah. Frank McClelland fmcclell@earthlink.net | Brown, Alexander (I93411)
