5955 | January 1952 Obit - New Mexico Funeral services for Horace Hooker, pioneer resident of the Gila area, who died Sunday at Las Vegas, N.M., were held Wednesday afternoon at the Mesa Cemetery at Gila. The Rev. Rhea Kuykendall officiated. Cox Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hooker, 84 years of age at the time of death, was born at Red Bluff, Calif., June 1, 1867. He came to Grant County with his parents at the age of nine, arriving in Silver City Jan. 1, 1887, As a young man, he entered the cattle businessand was an active member of the HW Cattle Co., Inc. in which the late John L. and Eben Burnside and the Hooker family were the stockholders. In 1936, he retired to his home on the Gila and hissons carried on the cattle business. His residence in the Gila area was for a period of 75 years. In 1892, Mr. Hooker married Cassie A. Cooley whose death occurred in 1914. There were eight children born to the union. In 1930, he was married to Mrs. LeotaCole of Gila. Survivors are his widow; five sons, Frank and Joe of Gila, Denton of Santa Rita and Jack and Bob of Silver City; onedaughter, Mrs. Margaret Kirkland, San Antonio, Tex., and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Alice Lobstein of Silver City. 5998 | John Coy, Jr., last will and testament was made October 5, 1817andprobated bythe Clerk of the Court Elizabethtown, Hardin County,Kentuckyon November 10, 1817. The will lists nine children born ofJohn andComfort. On the 4th day ofAugust 1813 between John Coy of Hardin County andSamuelMc Adams, Elder of the Baptist Church on the Rolling River Fork,andDaniel Coy, Deacon of said church, John Coy gave the church oneacre ofground, the land being next to John Coy's and Daniel Coy's landon theRolling Fork. The land was located on the south side of theRolling Forknext to John Coy's land. On the 10th day of June 1811, John and Comfort Coy deeded one acreofground to Daniel Coy for the sum ofone pound. Land was in the countyofHardin an dlocated on the Rolling Fork next to John Coys 300 acresurveyof his property. He was a member of theLowellAvenue Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army from 1923 to 1926. He unitedinmarriage to Bessie Bennett Nov. 3, 1934. She preceded him in death Dec. 26, 1984. He is survived by four sonsandtwo daughters, Fay Smith and Carrell Hunt, both of Campbellsville, Susan Hunt, Lexington, DeanHunt,Louisville, Robert Hunt, Shepherdsville, and Tom Hunt, Vine Grove. Besides his children, he is survived by11grandchildren; one brother, Edgar Allen Hunt, Bargersville, Ind.; several nieces and nephews and manyotherrelatives and friends.
