When a young boy, he moved with hisparentsinto Tennessee; afterwards he lived in Kansas and later inCalhouncounty, Illinois, where, in 1842 (June 30th), he married RuthNewell(daughter of Asael Newell and Elizabeth Bushnell), who was bornSept. 21,1822, at Brookfield Madison county, New York. Soon afterBrotherDespain's marriage he joined the Campbellites, with whom heremaineduntil Aug. 30, 1851, when he and his wife were baptized intothe Churchof Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was ordained aPriest Nov. 16,1851, by James R. Thorpe and an Elder May 2, 1852, byJ. T. Griffith, whowas presiding over a branch of the Church inIllinois. For a short timehe acted as first counselor to James R.Thorpe and later was firstcounselor to Wm. B. Corbett, who presidedover the same branch. Nov. 21,1853, he was called on a mission toArkansas, where he labored untilApril 11, 1854, and then visited hisrelatives in that State andsucceeded in baptizing quite a number ofthem. 6230 | LaVon Wanda Wisher, 75, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at her homeinKalispell. LaVon was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Austin, Minn., to Martin andEdithOlson. She moved to Montana at a very young age and graduatedfromFlathead High School in 1941. She married Clement P. "Clem" Wisher on June 6, 1942, in Portland,Ore.LaVon and her husband Clem started Wisher's Wood Yard, supplyingwood andwood products to many people in the Flathead Valley. LaVon wasan avidsupporter of stock-car racing because of her husband'sparticipation inthe sport. She was a very good mother who successfullyhelped raise hersons to become good workers and successful at anythingthey did. LaVon was also a collector. She had a very nice collection of JimBeamcollectible bottles and a nice collection of dolls. She also usedto makedolls and had become very good at it. LaVon was an avid keno player, as long as it didn't cost more thanadollar. If it did, she would quit. She will be missed by all herfamilyand friends. LaVon was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, AustinHesh;a son, Joseph C. Wisher, in 1980; two brothers, Ken and Alvin; asister,Esther; and her husband Clem Wisher, in March of this year. She is survived by three sons, James P. Wisher, Jerry M. Wisher andJohnJ. Wisher, all of Kalispell; 16 grandchildren; sixgreat-grandchildren;and two sisters, Irene Rishoff and Jewel Bellmore,both living atImmanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell.
