7840 Miles Owen Griffin was born in Hydetown, Pennsylvania in 1855,anddeparted this life October 5, 1939 at the age of 84 years, 8 monthsand29 days. When a young man he homesteaded in Phillips County,Kansas.Later he moved to Long Island, Kansas, and it was there he wasmarried toSarah Ellen Boyles in 1887. Most of his married life has been spent in Kansas. About 18 years agohebought a farm 13 miles northwest of Washington; where he lived untilthelast two years. Because of failing health he moved to a small placeatthe edge of Washington until three weeks ago when he went to livewithhis daughter Edith at Scranton, Kansas where he passed away. Mr Griffin was a home-loving man and a devoted husband and father. Hewasmost happy when he had his children and grandchildren with him, andhewas never to tired or too busy to enjoy their company. Besideshis wife, Mrs. Sarah Griffin, he is survived by six daughtersandthree sons: Mrs. Emma Burwell, Hope; Mrs. Edith Remington,Scranton; Mrs.Amy Corbin, Berwyn, Nebraska; Mrs. Minnie Lillibridge ofHaddam; JohnGriffin, Modesto, California; Harry Griffin, Washington;Mrs. PearlMosteller, Manhattan; Mrs. Goldie Wright of Fairbury,Nebraska; andEdward Griffin, Morrowville. Two sons Hiram and Clarence, who were WorldWar soldiers and one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Blevins, prededed Mr. Griffinin his death. He also leaves one half-brother,Robert Griffin, NorthBend, Nebraska., and 30 grandchildren and 6great-grandchildren. The onesnot able to attend services were one sonand one daughter John and onedaughter, Mrs. Amy Corbin.

Letter from Crawford County Genealogical Society in Pennsylvaniawritesdated October 7, 1986: It certainly was not difficult to trace Owen Miles Griffin herinCrawford Co. He appears to be the son of John and Rose Griffin, bothbornin Ireland. There is a fairly large family of children. It wouldseemthat the Griffins first came to Massachusettes, about 1838 or so,thenmoved to Canada where they stayed until about 1848. At thattime, theymoved to Pennsylvania. From 1850 to 1870 they were ratherfirmlyplanted in Oil Creek Township, Crawford Co., Pa. Owen would have been young, age 6, when his mother died in 1860. Iwasnot able to determine where she was buried. His father remarried,inDecember of 1869. It looks like John's new wife might have broughtherown small son into the household with her, given the 4-year-old boyinthe 1870 census. He could be a grandson of Johns, however, sincerelationships are not indicated in this census.

This family was very argumentative and never got along. Everyone hadafavorite child or sister or brother. They hollered at eachotherconstantly.

From The New Era August 26, 1869 RICHARD ALBERT FORREST Oct 4 1783 - Aug. 8, 1869 It is with regret that we have to chronicle this death, but doubtlessit was with emotions of delight by the recording angel of the other world whence he has happily taken his flight. This good man was born in North Carolina, October 4, 1873, moved toEast Tennessee when a young man and on 9 January 1809, moved to WarrenCounty and located on Collins River where he lived and died. Early in life,he took up the Cross of Christ and was ordained in the ministry onOctober 9, 1842, and was during his seventy years a worthy and beloved memberof the Baptist Church and for twenty seven years labored almostincreasing as a minister of the Gospel, proclaiming the tidings of eternal lifeto his fellow mortals. He raised twelve children and had great, great grand children to riseup and call him blessed. He prayed that he might live and see his country free once more. The closing act of his life was to vote in the late election. He cast his vote for liberty and with a feeble and trembling hand from his death bed, he delivered it in trust to those whodeposited it according to the law in the ballot box. And when the old man heardit was received, and felt he was instrumental, ere his departure inbreaki the tyrants band, he rejoiced, and thanked God and died in peace. On the 8th day of August, he breathed his last in the full faith of a better world in the 87th year of his age.
