Antonio Jose Trujillo noted in marriage record to be the son of Mariano
Trujillo and Rosalia Apodaca
-
Francisca Jaramillo noted in marrage record to be the daughter of Antonio
Jaramillo (deceased) and Maria Antonia Garcia
-
It was noted on this marriage record that Antonio Jose Trujillo and his
parents were listed as "Genizaros". This is a term used in old spanish rule,
where Indians were either captured or sold, and then converted to
Catholicism. In most case the were forced to work as servants, farm, or
tend livestock.
-
Francisca Jaramillo and family were listed as Espanols, meaning they were
of Spanish heritage.
-
In short if you descend from this family, you would be considered a mestizo
or mestiza, meaning a mixture of Spanish and Indian blood.
Interestingly Antonio's parents were married in 1760, and the marriage record
of father Mariano Trujillo and Rosalia Apodaca did not note these two were
of Indian orgins. I am not convinced yet, in reading the 1781 of record of his
son, Antonio, that his father Mariano was a Genizaro, but likely his mother
was. Most Indian captives that were converted to the term Genizaro were
females. Will study further, but for now, using the 1781 record as evidence,
this family was of Indian and Spanish ancestry.
