Notes |
- In writings called the "Monthly Packet of Evening Readings for Members of the English
Church", first published 1873; Hugh Ingram is listed as the son of a poor Kentish
gentleman. This Hugh Ingram was related to Roger Sheddon and was associated with
Dorothy Sheddon, daughter of Sir Thomas Sheddon. He is listed as living in Italy,
before returning to England. Sheddon family was noted as of Chardham Hall and
participated in the Chardham fair. Have not found a place in Kent of this name;
but could be Chartham.
Of Rothwell, England.
1665 Visitation of Yorkshire listed under Ingram of Cattal and Thorpe (page 146).
Hugh Ingram is listed at the top of this chart. No birth year or place noted, but he is
listed as died in 1612, and is listed as a Merchant of London. Also noted in tree is
wife Anne, but no last name provided.
In the church, are several monuments for the family of Clarke, of Somersall and Chilcote, and a mutilated alabaster slab for Philip —— , who died in 1517. The ancient monument of Matilda de Cauz has already been described. Bassano's volume of Church Notes, taken about the year 1710, describes an ancient tomb of " Hiskanda, Domina de Brampton" (without date), and some memorials of the family of Jackson, who inherited from the Bullocks, and were succeeded by the Beresfords in the possession of an ancient mansion in Brampton, now a farm-house the property of Mr. Dixon. There was formerly a chantry in this chapel, founded by Hugh Ingram. (This Hugh Ingram may have been related to Matilda de Cauz family, through marriage).
