- James William McDaniel
Monahans James William McDaniel was born Dec. 6, 1938, inSomervellCounty and died May 22 in Odessa, after a lengthy illness.His wife of 46years, Helen Ann, was with him. J.W. spent his childhood in Wickett and graduated from MonahansHighSchool in 1957. He continued his education at North TexasStateUniversity (now known as the University of North Texas) andgraduated in1964. J.W. was a local rancher for forty years. He ownedand operated theLazy R Ranch east of Monahans. He also owned severalother businessesover the years, including the Monahans Feed Store. He is predeceased by his father, W. O. ?Buster? McDaniel; and hissister,Ollie Dell Miller. J.W. is survived by his wife, Helen Ann; three daughters andtheirhusbands, Helen and Don Jackson of Houston; Lyn and Lanny IceofMonahans; and Leslie McDaniel and Sean Glaspell of Justin; andfourgrandchildren, Griffin, Rawley, Noel and Helen Ice. PearlMcDaniel,J.W.?s mother, lives in Monahans also. There will be a visitation from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 25,atFamily Funeral Services. A graveside service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, atthefamily cemetery, near the Lazy R. Ranch ranchhouse. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Lazy R RanchScholarshipFund, in care of West Texas State Bank. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Family FuneralServices/JackieHarkey.
