- Funeral services for Gracie Lee Kiser McMasters, 91, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at George Price Funeral Chapel, Levelland with Elgin Conner, minister of 13th and K Church of Christ, Levelland, officiating. Burial will be in City of Levelland Cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home, Levelland. She died Friday, January 14, 2011 in Lubbock, Texas.
She was born on October 25, 1919 in Meeker, Oklahoma to Cicero Wesley and Nellie Kiser. She was raised in a farm family and moved from central Texas to Hockley County in 1927.
From childhood, she remembered going to town in a horse drawn wagon and her father plowing with teams of horses. She attended Hodges Community School in northern Hockley County and participated in declamation. She graduated from Whitharral High School in 1938 where she enjoyed playing basketball. Gracie married the love of her life, Pershing (Pert) McMasters in 1941. During WWII, as a member of the"Greatest Generation", she undertook long journeys across America to be with her husband as he trained at Army Air Force bases scattered from coast to coast, carring their first child, Ann, with her. After WWII, she continued to care for her family as they had many adventures and made friends in west Texas and eastern New Mexico while her husband drilled oil wells for Magnolia-Mobil Oil Company. Gracie served as a dorm mother for South Plains College for seven years. Following her retirement in 1993, she became a volunteer for the Senior Citizens and enjoyed doing that for 14years. She was named Senior Citizen for
the Month of August in 2007. She spent much of her life caring for others. As the oldest daughter in her family, she cared for her younger siblings. As a homemaker she cared for her children, helped her parents in their declining years, loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and her nephews and nieces.
She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pershing McMasters; her parents; bothers, Alton Kiser, C. W. Kiser, Jr., Kenneth Kiser, Earnest Kiser; her sister, Geneva Cooper; her son-in-law, Winston Dodson; and a granddaughter, Caitlin McMasters.
Survivors include her children, Ann Dodson of Lubbock, Texas, David McMasters and his wife, Alva of Fort Stockton, Texas, Dennis McMasters and his wife Robin of Brownsburg, Indiana; her brothers, Harvey Kiser of Smyer, Texas and Charlie Kiser and his wife, Lynette of Forth Worth, Texas; her grandchildren, Scott Dodson, Tina Edmunds, Dava Longoria, Wes McMasters; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Casey, Abigail, Ethan, Maria Ann, and Lilly; great-great grandchildren, Whitney, Camron, Caden, Cadi, Caillat; and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
