Deceased Name: MATTHEW F. MATLAK
Matthew F. Matlak, 77, who made a career of beautifying homes in the Chicago area, died Saturday in his Niles home from complications from his 15-year battle with cancer. Mr. Matlak was a painter and decorator for nearly 40 years. He did much of his work under contract for Montgomery Ward. "His pride was his work," his wife, Dolores, said. He retired in 1984. Mr. Matlak was born and reared on the North Side of Chicago near Bucktown. He served in World War II and began painting shortly after hereturned from duty. He moved to Niles in 1961. In addition to his wife, Mr. Matlak is survived by four daughters, Nancy Felde, Kathy Merchut, Joann Abraham and Jacylin Matlak; two sons, Ken and Patrick; two sisters, Bernice Geza and Loretta Gronek; andn ine grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, 7812 N. Milwaukee Ave., Niles. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. John Brebeuf Catholic Church, 8307 N. Harlem Ave., Niles.

Services for Matthew F. Matlak 77, will begin at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, 7812 N. Milwaukee Ave., Niles, and continue with a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. John Brebeuf Church, Niles.
Interment will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery.
A World War II veteran, he was a member of the Painters Union #191.
He was the beloved husband of Dolores (nee Buczak); loving father of Ken (Chris), Nancy (Bill) Felde, Kathy (Joe) Merchut, Patrick (Kathy), Joann (Jeffrey) Abraham and Jacylin Matlak; dear grandfather of Kevin, Brian, Christopher, Jenny, Tim, Nick, Brittany, Caitlyn and Joey; and dear brother of Bernice (late Frank) Giza, and the late Emily, Julia (late Stanley) Klich and Loretta (late John) Gronek.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
