  DEER, James - James Hardy Deer, Sr., enlisted at the Marion County, South Carolina, courthouse on June 19, 1812. James served as a private in Major John Keith's 5th detachment of The South Carolina State Troops, Captain Samuel Bigham's Co. of Infantry. Nothing is known of his actual service. He was honorably discharged only 6 months later at Georgetown, South Carolina. This James Hardy, a brother of Mack Deer, moved to Henderson County, TN with his wife and children during the 1830's.
