Procesos del Santo Oficio de México, 1522-1820 (24 January 1573)
Image 790 of 1073
This film involves various individuals and/or families that were questioned during
the timeframe of the inquistion. The inquisition lasted from 1478 until 1834, and in
Mexico until about 1820. My reading of Latin/Spanish is limited, but gathered from
this page of the document, that on his paternal side of the family:
Joan (Juan) de Renteria listed his father as Joan (Juan) Gonsales de Renteria, and his
grand-parents on his fathers side of the family were Joan (Juan) Sanches de Renteria
and Joana (Juana) de Buytron.
-
On his maternal side of the family:
Joan (Juan de Renteria listed his mother as Maria Ochoa de Villela, but did not list
her abuelos on the maternal side of the family.
-
The document involved the testitmony of a Sancho Diaz de Menchaca of the town of
Plasencia, Viscaya (Spain). He stated he was a member of the mines, and stated he
had known Joan (Juan) de Renteria since he was a boy. The family lived 1 1/2 Leagues
(about 5 miles) from Plasencia, in the Valley of Vaquio in the Casa de la Renteria.
Sancho stated that he had known Joan (Juan) de Renteria for 40 years and that he was
over 50 years of age. This places his birth year closer to ca 1523.
