- Samuel D. Anderson
Samuel David Anderson, age 18, died peacefully in his mother�s armsattheir Harris home, surrounded by his family, on Feb. 18, 2001. A memorial mass was held Friday, Feb. 23 at Sacred Heart CatholicChurchin Rush City with the Reverend Ralph Huar officiating. Musicwasperformed by Nancy Sterk, Nancy Moulton, and Rob Karl. Honorarycasketbearers were Zach Koepp, Scott Robinson, David Gaul, DougAnderson, LukeUmbriet, Brad Scott, Brian Gilmore, Kurt Wendorf, NoahWendorf, JeffMold, Greg Tryman, Chuck Rudd. Arrangements were by theOlson Chapel,Funeral & Cremation Service, Rush City, MN. Samuel David Anderson, the son of Brian and Judith (Gaul) Anderson,wasborn April 27, 1982 at Unity Hospital in Fridley, MN. Sam was a lively redheaded little boy who loved life and everythingaboutit. The Anderson family lived in Plymouth, MN until Sam was 11years old,at which time they moved to Harris, MN. There he had a lotof room toplay in the woods, have a great variety of pets, and couldridesnowmobiles and dirt bikes. Sam was a very kind person, always with a beautiful smile on hisface,and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. He could easily makeotherslaugh. His classmates at Rush City High School knew him as“Smilin’ Sam”or “Smiley.” He was always willing to help anyone whoneeded it and was avery responsible and hard worker.
The great outdoors was Sam’s favorite place to be, and preferably inaboat or fish house on a lake or river with his grandpas orbuddies,reeling in the “big ones.” Every fall he looked forward todeer huntingwith his brother Joe, his dad and his grandpa.
When he was young, one of Sam’s favorite games to play was baseballandhe was a wonderful catcher for his Little League team in Plymouth.Inhigh school his interest turned to the sport of wrestling, and hewasteam captain during his senior year. He was honored to be chosenthe 1999Homecoming King for Rush City High School.
In March of 2000, and during his senior year of high school, Samwasdiagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease. He fought an 11 month battle tobeatit. He gave it everything he had and did everything the doctorsand hisparents wanted him to do. He never gave up and bravely stood upto everychallenge he faced. Sam will be sadly missed by his family andfriends,but they know he is in a much better place and will suffer nolonger.
Same is survived by his parents, Brian and Judy Anderson, Harris;brotherJoe Anderson, at home; grandparents: Gene and Helen Anderson,Rock Creek,MN, Jerry and Kay Gaul, Minneapolis, MN; great-grandmotherAlmeda Gaul,St. Peter, MN; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.He was precededin death by his great-grandparents, Sylvia and HarryClifford, AxelAnderson, Boyd and Holly Forrey, Clarence Gaul, Georgeand GenevieveBlumhoe-fer; uncle Tim Anderson, cousin, Nathan Anderson.
