Notes |
- David Porter is listed in the Ray County, Missouri federal Census in 1840.
He was located in the Fishing River Township. A number of Odell men
were also listed in this census, but Isaac Odell is the likely father of
Martha Odell.
May be related to the Joseph Porter family who lived in nearby Platte
and Clay counties of Missouri. Joseph Porter was born 9 January 1793
in Newport, Jefferson County, Territory South of the Ohio River.
Joseph Porter was married 20 December 1822 in Ray County, Missouri
to Mary Monroe Gragg.
Some records state David was born in Indiana and others Virginia. Indiana
did not beome a state until 1816 but was a territory in 1800.
1880 census lists grandson as Henry T, born 1862 and Lucy born 1872
living with Martha Porter who was widowed.
1870 Camden census lists Melcinda (born 1836) living with John Tarwater,
children Christian (female - born 1853) and Henry (born 1862) living in this
household. Likely that Melcinda is the daughter of John Tarwater.
