FLORENCE - Louis Daniel "Louie" Van Haren, 83, of Florence died Dec.10,2006 at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at Assumption CatholicChurch.Funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 10. Burial will be inFlorenceCemetery.
Mr. Van Haren was born Sept. 30, 1923 on a ranch east of FlorencetoEdward G. and Caroline (Ceschetti) Van Haren. He was a lifelongArizonanand a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a seaman firstclass in theAsian and European-African theaters and received 10 battlestars. Afterthe war he was a heavy-equipment operator for the ArizonaDepartment ofTransportation. He was known for his mischievous, happypersonality. Heloved fishing at Rocky Point and the White Mountains,hunting and roping.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Lewis and Beverly ElliotofFlorence; four sisters, Elanor Hamer of Scottsdale, Eva TaylorofFlorence, Emo Kirkland of Phoenix and Edwina Westfall of Florence;sixgrandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in deathbyhis wife, Mildred, in 1989.
