- FORMER PLUMAS MILL CHIEF DIES Murdock R. MacKenzie, 74, retired mill superintendent of the WalkerMinein Plumas County, and a resident of 1029 K Street, died today intheSutter Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m.Monday inthe Andrews & Greilich Chapel, with Dr. Clarence AlbertKircher of theWestminster Presbyterian Church officiating. TheSacramento MasonicFraternity also will conduct services. Burial willbe in the MasonicCemetery. MacKenzie, a native of Nova Scotia, came toCalifornia twentyyears ago and was the mill superintendent for theAnaconda Copper Companyat Walkermine for eighteen years. He was amember of the Plumas Lodge No.60, Free and Accepted Masons of Quincy,the Scottish Rite Bodies ofSarramento and was a Thirty second degreeMason. He was a member of theWestminster Presbyterian Church. Thesurvivors are his wife, Mrs. PhoebeMacKenzie; his son, Murdock M.MacKenzie and his daughter, Mrs. F. W.MacKenzie, all of California,and four sisters, Mrs. Maggie Lee ofManchester, Mass., and Mrs.Christie McLeod, Mrs. Flora McDonald and Mrs.Lena Beaton, all of NovaScotia. MURDOCK R. R. MCKENZIE PASSES ON COAST Wordwasreceived here Thursday of the death in Sacramento, Calif., ofMurdock R.McKenzie, former well-known resident of Anaconda where for40 years hewas connected with the Anaconda Reduction Works. About 20years ago hewas transferred to California to become millsuperintendent of the Walkermine, a position he held until hisretirement two years ago. The Walkermine is a subsidiary property ofthe Anaconda Copper Mining company. Mr.McKenzie was the father of Mrs.Frank McKenzie, 1156 West PorphyryStreet. She left Butte Mondayevening and was at her father’s bedsidewhen he passed away, as werehis wife, Mrs. Phoebe McKenzie, and theirson Milton McKenzie, a chiefpetty officer in the U.S. Navy, stationed atVallejo, Calif. Mr.McKenzie came to Butte as a youth of 18 and workedfor a time at thesmelters in Meaderville. From there he went to GreatFalls where hebecame employed at the Great Falls Reduction works, latermoving toAnaconda where he continued in the same line of work.
