VIOLET O. JOHNSTON
Violet O. Johnston, the daughter of Hannah (Sundmark) and EdwinSeversonwas born on March 18, 1915 in Beaver Township, Roseau County.VioletJohnston passed away on Tuesday, March 6 at the Roseau AreaHospital. Shewas 91 years old.
She was educated in Roseau, and married Edwin Johnston on October 9,1932in Pembina, North Dakota. Vi and Ed lived in Thief River Fallsuntilmoving to Roseau in 1936. Ed worked as a game warden for theState of MNand Vi worked Pharmacy. She was a member of MessiahLutheran Church, anda 50+ year honor member of the Messiah Women ofthe E.L.C.A. She was amember of the American Legion Auxiliary, theRoseau Health CareAuxiliary, and the MN Rifle Team with her husbandEd. She was also thefirst Welcome Wagon Representative in Roseau. Vienjoyed quilting,embroidery, baking, cooking, gardening, and visitingwith friends andfamily. She enjoyed her friends at the Sheltering Oaksround table verymuch. Her table members were Amy Johnson, LillianJohnson, BerthaJohnson, Gladys Messelt, Bessie Nyland, and JeanGrothem. She was awonderful cook and always had snacks, caramel rollsand/or a great mealfor her grandkids when they stopped by to visit. Violet is survived by her three children, Gail (Dick) Johnson ofRoseau,Sally (Richard) Smebak of Andover, MN, and Aileen (Mark)Helgeson ofRoseau; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; brotherAdolph Seversonof Roseau, and two sisters, Ruth Cotter and Audrey(Fred) Martinez, bothof Butte, MT; daughter-in-law Dixie Johnston;sisters-in-law LoisSeverson, Fern Severson, Lorrine Thompson, AlmaJohnston and Aileen(Francis) Grahn. She is also survived by manynieces and nephews. She ispreceded in death by her parents, husbandEd, son Eddy, granddaughterHeather Helgeson, great-granddaughter JennyLynn Novotny, brothersAlbert, Harold, Elmer, and Clifford and sisterMarjorie Boyer.Violet wasloved deeply by all and will be greatlymissed.
Funeral Services for Violet Johnston of Roseau will be held 11:00 a.m.onTuesday, March 13, 2007 at the Messiah Lutheran Church inRoseau.Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Helgeson Funeral Chapelin Roseau.Burial will be at Hope Cemetery next to her husband Edwin.
