- Elva M. Beckstrom
Elva Mae Beckstrom died peacefully on Aug. 31, 2002, in Placerville.Shewas 81 years old.
She was born on Nov. 22, 1920, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the fourth childofBrigham Fielding and Laura Selinda Bringhurst Duffin. The familymoved toSanta Paula in 1927 where she attended local schools.
Upon graduation from Santa Paula High School, she attended VenturaJuniorCollege, majoring in music. On June 21, 1941, she married hersweetheartReid J. Beckstrom, in the Salt Lake City Mormon Temple.
The couple lived in Inglewood where she became a homemaker andenjoyedparticipating in musical activities and singing in a girls'trio. Theirfirst two children were born during this time. In 1947,following the endof World War II, she and her husband moved toCoalinga where two morechildren were born.
In 1961 her family moved with her husband's career to Davis. Afterherchildren left for college, she worked as an admissions officer atUCDavis.
In 1981 her husband retired and they settled in Somerset, wheretheybuilt their own home and cultivated beautiful gardens. In 1991 shejoinedwith her husband in establishing the El Dorado Stake GenealogyCenter inPlacerville. During this time she was able to trace herancestors back tothe early 1500s.
She was active in several organizations in the LDS church, PTA,GirlScouts and other civic and community activities. She loved singinganddancing and performed in various musical productions throughout herlive.She was a talented artist and seamstress, an excellent cook, andlovingwife and mother. She made many friends and faithfully supportedherhusband and children in all their activities and endeavors.
She loved life, had an easy laugh and enjoyed people of all ages andfromall walks of life. She was particularly fond of her grandchildrenandgreat-grandchildren. She was much loved and will be missed by allwho hadthe good fortune to know her.
She especially appreciated the care and kindness of her dearneighbors,her compassionate doctors, and the staff at MarshallHospital during herlast days of life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, RalphBringhurstDuffin; a sister, Laura Marie Cosby; and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Reid, to whom she hadbeenmarried for 61 years; a sister, Ellen Lucille Revill of Simi; abrother,John Gilbert Duffin of Henderson, Nev.; her children and theirspouses,David and Linda Beckstrom of Snohomish, Wash., Elaine andHarold Cluff ofMcCall, Idaho, Jan and Erin David Bigler of Provo,Utah, and Karen andAaron Niepoetter of Bloomington, Ill.; 17grandchildren; and 28great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 1p.m.Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saintschapel, 3275Cedar Ravine Road in Placerville. A viewing will be heldat noon prior tothe service.
