- James Leroy Edwards, passed out of this life on July 8, 1917, at thehomeof his daughter, Mrs. John Will Johnson, three miles south ofSylvia, atthe age of 69 years, 8 months and 2 days. Mr. Edwards was apioneer ofJackson County, born on a farm in Farmers Creek Township,where heresided nearly all his life. He was a prosperous farmer, butfor the pastfew years, his health failed and he retired from activefarm life andmade his home with his children. His wife preceded him indeath someyears of age. He is survived by five sons and six daughters.His funeralwas held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Johnson onTuesday, July 10.Services conducted by Rev. Mullen, with interment inthe Wilson cemeterynear Iron Hill.

"J.R. Edwards Dead
After an illness of scarcely two weeks, James R. Edwards, for manyyearsa well known resident of the Garryowen vicinity, passed away athis homenear that place Sunday morning. Mr. Edwards was born inFarmer's Creektownship, November 17, 1848 and had spent his entirelife in thatcommunity. He was known to many here, and although he,like we all, hadsome faults, he was extremely kind hearted and jovialand as a friendcould be ever depended upon and was ever in readinessto do anyone inneed a good turn.
In 1866 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Fugate, to whichunionsixteen children were born, eleven of whom survive to mourn thedeath ofa kind father. They are Ira J. of Capa, S.D.; Charles, Frankand Mrs.Sarah Johnson of near Bernard; Mrs. Pearl Clark and Mrs. OliveHouse ofOtter Creek; Desmond of Canada; Mrs. Dora Rathbun of Nebraska;Mrs.Florence Book of Ft. Pierre, S.D.; and James of Garryowen. The funeral was held from the home ofhisdaughter, Mrs. Sara Johnson, this forenoon at eleven o'clock, Rev.FatherMullen conducting the services. Interment was made in the WilsonCemeterynear Iron Hill.

James Leroy Edwards passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs.J.W.Johnson of Otter Creek township, on the 8th day of July, 1917,aged 69years 8 months and 2 days. Mr. Edwards was born in Farmer'sCreektownship, Jackson County, Iowa on the 6th day of November 1948,and wasmarried to Miss Mari Fugate December 18, 1867. To this unionwere bornnine sons and seven daughters, four of whom died in infancy,Mrs. BasilTracy, who preceded him in death 12 years ago. Those whoremain to mournhis loss are Ira J., of Capa, S.D.; Charles A. ofBenard; Asa Desmond ofTogo, Canada; Francis of Zwingle; James M. ofBernard; Mrs. J. W.Johnson, Zwingle; Mrs. Dora Rathbun, Ainsworth,Nebraska; Mrs. Eunice O.Howell, Zwingle; Mrs. Florence Book, Ft.Peirre, South Dakota.
The Funeral was held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. W.Johnson,Tuesday morning at 9:30 and burial took place at the WilsonCemetery. Thefuneral service was conducted by Rev. Father J. A. Mullenof St.Theresa's. Those who acted as pallbearers were William J.Feeney, JamesCannon, Edward Sweeney, Maurice Donovan, Matt Dwyer, andGeorge Bowling.
