"This Indenture made this 24th day of May in the year of our Lord 1759 between THOMAS GREEN the younger of the County of Amelia of the one part and JOHN WALTROPE and JAMES WALTROPE of the same County of the other part. Witnesseth that the said THOMAS GREEN for and in consideration of the sum of 15 pounds current money of Virginia the Receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and thereof Acquit and Discharge the said JOHN WALTROPE and JAMES WALTROPE their heirs Executors and hath bargained sold alienated _______? and Confirmed and doth by these presents absolutely bargain, sell .....to the said JOHN WALTROPE and JAMES WALTROPE their heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land containing by estimation 100 acres situate lying and being in the County of Amelia and near the Horsepen Branch on Wintocomake Creek Road beginning at a corner pine .....on the head of the Spring Branch, running thence [degrees etc.] ... To have and to hold the above tract of land containing 100 acres be the same more or less unto the said JOHN WALTROPE and JAMES WALTROPE their heirs.....do warrant forever defend ....against all persons unto the said JOHN WALTROPE and JAMES WALTROPE them their heirs, Executors, Administrators etc...... THOMAS GREEN hath hereunto set his hand and his seal the day and year above Written. Signed THOMAS GREEN.

"I JAMES WALDROPE in the presents of allmighty God amen, Do first commit my soul to allmighty god who hath given it and my body to the ground from whence it came and this being my Last Will and Testament. I do will to JEREMIAH WARD for the consideration of five pounds and ten pence half penny paid in hand one Sertain peace or parsel of Land Lying on the FRYING PAN CREEK, the mouth and thence up the Creek to a new Line and from thence along the new line to the top of the ridge, from there Corners on a hickory and ash tree. I otherwise do give and bequeath to my wife SARAH WALDROPE the remaining part of my Land during her Life or widowhood and after to belong to my son JAMES WALDROPE [JR] and all my Personal estate goods and chattles do will to my wife SARAH to be _______ Life forever. In Witness thereunto I have set my Hand and seal this the 26th day of May 1772. Signed JAMES WALDROP Witnesses: SAMUEL BOLLING; EDWARD WADE and JOHN WALDROPE [Signature not a mark].
At a Court held for Pittsylvania Co., VA 24 July 1772, This last will and testament of JAMES WALDROP deceased was presented in court and ordered to be recorded and no Executor being appointed by the said WALDROP, on motion of SARAH WALDROPE, Widow and Relict of the said testator having first taken the oath by said prescribed certificate is granted her for obtaining Letters of Administration of all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits of the said testator with his said Will annexed giving Security where from she together with SAMUEL BOLLING his security entered into Bond and Acknowledged the same.
