The Cherokee Indian Claim Appl. of Thomas M. SKAGGS [#36571 20 Aug, 1907 Sturgeon,MO] contains more genealogical information that that ofAndrew Jackson SKAGGS. He stated that he was born 19 Nov,1835 in Green Co,KY, s/o Elijah & Luceretia [CRAIL] SKAGGS. His parental grandparents were Thos. & Nancy [VANCE] SKAGGS & his g-grandparents were Archibald &Betsy [THOMPSON] SKAGGS. The linage for Thos. W. SKAGGS as given in theclaim appears to be accurate until one reaches the question of the parentage of Thos. M. SKAGGS' grandfather Thomas SKAGGS.

Thos. M. SKAGGS statments concerning his g-grandmother, Betsy[THOMPSON] SKAGGS, were much more informative than those of Andrew JacksonSKAGGS. According to Thos. M. SKAGGS, she was born in GA.,again supposed to be one-half Cherokee & lived there on Conasauga Ck. [it runs through Gilner,Fannin,Murry & Whitefield Cos. of northern Georgia & alsotouches across the Tennessee/Georgia border]. Further statements included the information that she was sometimes called "Lucy" & had died in her son Thomas SKAGGS house in Green Co. at the advanced age about 1838/39. We do know that in Thomas SKAGGS' household in 1830 there was indeedanelderly lady Thomas SKAGGS 1 m. 15-20,1 m. 50-60 1 f. 60-70,1 f. 90-100

This woman would have been born between 1730/1740, an appropriatebirth date for the mother of Archibald [b.1759], Fredrick, Thomas [b.1770] & Moses [b.1774], the sons of Charles SKAGGS.

(My own note: the author goes on to indicate that Thomas M. Skaggs grandparents were Charles Skaggs and Lucy 'Betsy' Thompson, which I concur with.)
