"Green Co. Marriage Rec. 1793-1836" pg.54 shows the marriage of Elijah SKAGGS from Marriage Bk. "B", pg.140 SKAGGS,Elijah CRAIL,Elizabeth B. 12 Feb,1835 Elijah SKAGGS & Benjamin SKAGGS C. James CRAIL,father Wit: Benj. C. BIGGS md. 18 Feb,1835 Thos. SKAGGS
Thomas SKAGGS' will [Green Co. Will Bk.3,pg.176] dated 31 Sep 1851, proved 18 Oct, 1852 does not name all of his children, mainly providing for his wife, Elizabeth & grandchildren [some of his children having predeceased him]. The Cherokee Claim identified his children as: Alexander, Moses, Polly, William, Gemima, Thomas J. & Elijah.
From the census recs., it seems that Thomas SKAGGS was born c1770 inVA. This alone shows that he could not have been a son of Archibald SKAGGS, who would have been 11 yrs. old when Thos. was born. As is the case with Andrew Jackson SKAGGS' grandfather Moses SKAGGS, Thos. SKAGGS was apparently a s/o Charles SKAGGS & a bro. of Archibald SKAGGS.
