Notes |
- Very likely that Lydia may have been a Graham; per estate records of William Graham per Ardith info, included below.
Ardith, Thanks for the info. This is getting more interesting all the time. I have some more questions and will explain why I ask. Iamresearching families who left Rockingham and Caswell Counties,N.C.headed for Kentucky. Many of these families settled in Green Co. Anyone reading this may want to keep this in mind if they have N.C.roots. The will of William Graham in Caswell Co., N.C. names daughter Lidda (Lydda, Lydia) Elmore. The estate settlements name heirs of Peter Elmore. I feel sure Lidda was the wife of Peter Elmore. Now what I don't know is that Lidda may have been married previously to a "Biddlecomb" since you mention that as her name. Where did that surname record come from? It is also possible that Peter Elmore may have been previously married to Polly Graham Elmore who was named in the will of William Graham as a daughter but she was apparently deceased as he mentioned "the heirs of Polly Elmore." So it seems that maybe she died and Peter married her sister who also was previously married. This is all speculation at the moment and needs more study.
Now the next thing - Conrad Strader of Caswell Co., N.C. named in his will "Ester Elmore." This is the only record I have found of her name.Several researchers I have been in contact with all name her "Hester." Where did they get this as her name. No one has been able to tell me. So at this point I can only assume her name as "Ester" since she is so named in her father's will. It appears she did have descendants named Hester. Thanks a bunch for your time.
