- MARRIAGE: I am not yet convinced that this William Perry Despain or WilliamJosephDespain are both sons of Peter and Nancy [Skaggs] Despain. A couple of items that I haven't seen in Despain genealogy isduplicatefirst names of children. If this information is proven to be correct, then we have two"identical"first name children: 1.) William Joseph Despain, born 19 March 1813 in Green County,Kentucky(Various sources, but the Despain Log Cabin is one) 2.) William Perry Despain, born 2 August 1837 in Green County,Kentucky(again, the Despain Log Cabin is one source)
I have not found William Perry DeSpain, son of Peter DeSpain (andagranddaughter), in records that I have gone through, but apparently others have. Those that have come across thisrecordstate that as a minor child, Wiliam D. Skaggs, who was magistrate of Green County, Kentucky and the child's uncle, wasmadehis Guardian. (William D. Skaggs would have been a first cousin, as WilliamDavidSkaggs was the son of David Skaggs)
Only one other item that I would hope could be clarified, again, becauseI have not accessed the information. William Perry Despain is listed as born 2 August 1837 in GreenCounty,Kentucky (Rev. War pension abstracts indicate this, although I haven't seen or found a written account of thispensionabstract). His death record has his birth date as 6 August 1832, again I haven't seen or found a written account of thedeathrecord, for all to interpret.
Now that I have talked some about William Perry Despain, I move ontoWilliam Joseph Despain. I know even less about him, then I do about William Perry Despain. Anyone haveanyinformation that can support that William Joseph Despain is the son of Peter Despain. I believe some oftheNebraska Despains had kept family bibles, but I am not sure of this.
