• Notes

  Lengthy Green County, Kentucky circuit court suit between William Barret and the Black family heirs provided some general information of this family.  The suit was triggered after the 1833 death of the father of Jeremiah Black; also named Jeremiah. During this lengthy suit; Jeremiah Black Junior also died.  He left two children; Gamaliel Black and Mary Jane Black. After Jeremiah's death Mary Jane and Gamaliel were appointed a guardian in Monroe County, Kentucky. This meant that they were under 14 years of age at the time of fathers death.
