Diane Elaine Mathis left the world to be with her Lord on Aug. 28,2006.She was born Sept. 27, 1949, in Galveston to the late HoffmanAilesMathis Sr. and Elizabeth Hawes Mathis. She was the fourth offivechildren and after courageous battle with cancer joined herbrothers JackRichard Mathis and Hoffman Ailes Mathis Jr., and also waspreceded indeath by her uncle Jack R. Hawes Jr.
She is survived by her loving sisters, Kathy Mathis Austin andhusbandGene of Texas City and Deborah Kay Hales and husband Bill ofWharton. Sheis also survived by her caring nieces and their husbands,ElizabethAustin Blackburn and husband Bren of Texas City, Wendy AustinDenson andhusband Shawn of Needville and Cheryl Austin Vinson and Johnof TexasCity along with 14 great-nieces and nephews. She is alsosurvived bycousins Kenneth Nelson of Houston and Carolyn Vetters ofRockport.
Ms. Mathis had been a resident of Richmond State School for 30-plusyearsand deeply enjoyed Special Olympics as a participant along with agreatlove for people, especially children and dogs.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. with aVigilService at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the James Crowder Funeral Homein LaMarque with Deacon Steve Mistretta officiating. Funeral Mass willbeFriday, Sept. 1, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary?s of theMiraculousMedal Catholic Church in Texas City with Rev. Tom Ponziniofficiating.Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Nelson, Shawn Denson, Ronald J. BoytJr.,Bren Blackburn, Bren Thomas Blackburn and Chase Ryan Vinson.
The family would like to extend special thanks and recognition tothestaff of Richmond State School for the many years of devotedanddedicated care of Ms. Mathis.
