Porter on December 17, 1862 fromNashville,Tennessee: Dear (ineligible) Mother, I received a letter from you and wasglad to hear from you but it hasbeen so long ago I think it time I wasgetting another If I am notmistaken you said you was all well which Iwas very glad to hear. Butas for myself I am not well but am gettingbetter it has been 2 weekssince I left the hospital I have been layingroun thecamp waiting togain strength but it seems slow coming. I dontknow what the matter wasI did not think I was much sick but I got downvery week some how orother but what I regard the most I have lost myvoice so I cant sing onthe high key alot but the boys think it will comewith my strength butif it dont I shall feel verry bad lind seemed verryanxious about meyou can tell her I am getitng well I will soon be ablefor duty if Idont get a back set. The boys havegone out on drill butthat is a job Idont have to do nor do I have to go to roll call that isnow for me. Cinder talks of sending me the box of grubb ifshe sends it tell her tofill it with such as she can himand MotherParrish will splice. Peterdunkin is here today he looks harty as abuck. Perry Fulton is cookingbeens today. I will quit now till after theMale comes in .
