  Alexander was living in Monroe County, Kentucky and is listed in the1820census there. The ancestry of Alexander has remained a mystery tothepeople researching this family. His son Alexander was still alivein 1880and reported his father's birth to be Penn. This could bePennsylvania asit would mean the familywent South across theCumberland Gap. It couldalso mean Pendelton, SC where the firstrecords of Alexander are found.Several of the children ofAlexander'schildren report their fathers asbeing born in Penn also andwe are fairly certain they were born in SC.There are some clues torelatives. He could be related to the James andJohn in Knox County ashe is listed in Knox County, Tennessee tax recordsand in a petition inKnox County to open Roane County to settlement. Heprobably is relatedto other Mahans listed in early documents of RoaneCounty. These wouldbe David, found in tax records, John found in a courtrecord, and aMatthew found listed as a witness in land records by JudyKoster.Alexander sold his land in Roane Co in 1809 and went toCumberland Co,Ky with his second wife Patsy and some of the childrenfrom his firstmarriage. Alexander is listed in land records there as isAlexander Jr,David and Wilson (who may bethe William from the firstmarriage.) Theserecords are often in association with William and Henryand JosephParker and some members of the Bushong family.Since Williamand Joel,believed sons of Alexander and Patsy, are with these samepeople inPickens County, Alabama, it is reasonable to assume theytraveledwiththe Parkers and Bushongs after the death of Alexander.Alexander isfoundin Monroe Co Ky which was a part of Cumberland in the1820 censusand in tax records up to 1824. No further records exist so itisprobable that he died about that time. What happened to Patsyisunknown. She may have remarried but no record to this hasbeenfound.There is no proof but long time research indicatesthatAlexanderand Patsy had four children 2 girls and 2 boys. He and hismother, andbrother William moved to Pickens county Alabama about 1830with agroupfrom Cumberland County Kentucky. 1. Both Joel and WilliamlistKentucky as their birth. 2. Both Joel and William have a sonnamedAlexander. 3. There are three Alexanders in Kentucky 1820 census.OnlyAlexander of  Cumberland county hadboys under 10. 4. Near theMahans inPickens county 1840 are Parkers and Bushongs. Both names areinCumberland County 1820 or so. 5. One of the descendants of theBushongswrote a piece some years back talking about the members of oneof thePresbyterian churches in Cumberland County who all packed up andmoved toPickens county about 1825. 6. Burrel Parker married a BushonginTuscaloosa, Ala about 1828. 7. Near the Mahans in Pickens isWilliamParker. An earlier census shows a  Henry Parker. WilliamMahan's firstson is Henry. 8.Descendants ofAlexander's first marriageto PeggyBrashear have done quite a bit of research. One of thechildren  welldocumented is Isaac. He left Tennessee about 1837 andmoved to TishomingoCounty Mississippi. He was one of the firstministers there. In 1839 hepatented land at SW 1/4 S9 T5 S R 11 E. 9.One of Isaac's daughters wasElizabeth. She married John H. Clark in1839 also in Tishomingo. 10. OnNov 18, 1841 Joel and Abigail Mahansold to John H. Clark 160 Acres atSE 1/4 S7 T 5 R 11 E. To anyone whoknows land titles this is about 1/2mile  from Issac.
