Monroe was born on 22 December 1920 in Tahoka, Texas, to NewtonGrahamand Josephine Malone Graham, married Fanny Willodean Foster in 1923, andhadone son, Weldon Terry Graham in 1949. (I hope this information is correcta there are no omissions.)
Monroe's grandfather was James Monroe Graham, the youngest ofJesseGraham's sons, and as stated above his father was Newton Graham, the 7th ofJames Monroe's 12 children. Named for his grandfather, James Monroe,MonroeWeldon was born on his father's wheat farm near Plainview, Texas. In 1935when Monroe was about 15 years old, Newton moved his family to McAllen,Texa where Monroe graduated from high school. He enlisted in the ArmyAirCorps (prior name of the U.S. Air Force) at Randolph Air Base in SanAntonio, Texas, and went through Flying School. During WW II he flew planesofseveral kinds, and was decorated on several occasions for bravery. He served26years in the service of our country, and retired from the USAF asapilot/Lt.Col. He was a true patriot, and we all owe his memory our honor.
In 1986 Monroe recorded that he had two living sisters: Kizzie Greenof McAllen, Texas, and Fern Shannon of Fairfield, California. I do notknow their present status.
Monroe attended our Clan Graham Reunions as often as his healthwouldallow it, and was such a joy to be with. Indeed, he was one of theoriginalGrahams to help organize our branch of Clan Graham. We shall miss thiscousinwhose life was spent for family and country. We salute you, Monroe, forthefriend, cousin, and warrior that you have been.
Bill E. Graham
