- 1733-6 Somerset County, Maryland; In the name of God, Amen. I,JohnOutten, of Somerset County, in the Province of Maryland, planter,beingvery sick of body but of perfect mind and memory, blessed be theLord, dohereby make my last Will and Testament.
"Imprimis: I give and bequeath to my well-beloved wife, Sarah Outten,athird part of my now dwelling plantation where on I now live duringherwidowhood; also a third part of the orchard, pasture, or anyotherbenefit thereunto belonging; likewise, a third part of mypersonalestate, my lawful debts being paid.
"Item: I give and bequeath to my son John Outten, to him and hisheirsforever my now dwelling plantation whereon I now live withorchards,pastures and marshes and lands thereunto belonging, exceptsome certainparcels of land and marsh and liverties which I give andbequeath in thisfollowing testament; also one sorrel horse called Johnalso with bridle,saddle, pistols and holsters with such likefurniture, likewise onefeather bed and furniture.
Item: I give and bequeath to my son Purnell Outten, to him and hisheirsforever, that 50 A of land which my father had alienated form oldPhilipConner; likewise all the land and marsh lying on the north sideof asmall branch or valley lying on the north side of a certain oldfieldknown by the name of Indian field, thence running westward toWilliamConners; likewise liberty in the Planting Island. Pasture forhorses andcattle in winter or summer at any time when he shall thinkfit.
Item: I give and bequeath unto John Conner, to him and his heirsforever,that parcel of land and marsh which I sold him lying betweenhis 30 A orthereabouts, it being a part of a tract of land which Ibought of WilliamConner called Marchets Treasure.
Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Sturgis, oneshillingcurrent money of the Province aforesaid.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Directer Outten onesorrelhorse commonly called her horse and one side saddle and bridleto bebought for her and paid for out of my estate.
Item: The remaining part of my estate, my lawful debts being paidandfuneral charges discharged, I give leave to be equally dividedbetweenand among my children as followeth: That is to say, directerOutten andEdeth Outten, Purnell Outten, Abraham Outten, Obed Outtenand TabithaOutten.
Item: In case it should be the pleasure of Almighty God to take myson,John Outten, off the stage of this life, not having issuelawfullybegotten and born in wedlock, I give and bequeath the abovesaid landgiven to my son John to my son Abraham Outten and to hisheirs forever;in case my son Purnell Outten should die not havingissue lawfullybegotten and born in wedlock, I give and bequeath theabove said landgiven to my son Purnell to my son Obed Outten and tohis heirs forever.
Item: I do hearby nominate, appoint and ordain by well belovedwife,Sarah Outten, to be my whole and sole executrix of this my lastWill andTestament and do hereby utterly disallow and revoke allprevious Wills.My hand and seal this 29th day of August 1733.

On March 2, 1735, a codicil was added to the Will. He gave to hissonPurnell a part of the land that he had previously willed to John."Thatparcel of land and small Islands lying between a certain oldfield knownby the name of Indian Field and north end of a small islandknown by thename of Round Island. Also to my son Abraham Outten mynegro woman afterthe death of my wife, and in case my son Abraham diewithout lawfulissue, I give my negro woman to my son Purnell Outten.
Item: I give and bequeath to my son Obed Outten my negro boy Tomafterthe death of my wife and in case Obed die to my son John Outten.
