Land Conveyance, Sumter District, Claremont County, South Carolina - 11 November 1811 The State of South Carolina Know all men by these presents that we Isaac Jordan and Susannah Graham of Claremont County and Sumter District in the State Aforesaid, Planters, in consideration of one thousand dollars to us in hand paid, by Henry Vaughan of the County, District, and State Aforesaid, Planter, have granted, bargained, sold, and released , and by these presents, do grant, bargain, sell, and release unto the said Henry Vaughn, all that Plantation, parcel or tract of land containing one hundred and fourteen acres, being part of a tract of land orginally granted to John Mitchell on the seventh day of October, one thousand seven hundred and sixty two, and conveyed by David Mitchell to William Graham on the fourteenth day of April one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven, and then taken by Samuel Fley Sheriff, and sold and conveyed by the said Samuel Fley to William Simpson on the Twenty fourth day of May, one thousand seven hundred and ninety two, and conveyed by William Simpson and Susanna Graham to Isaac Jordan situate lying and being in Claremont County, Sumter District and State Aforesaid, on a branch originally called Beach Creek being part of the waters of Black River, and hath such shape, form, buttings, and boundings, as the plat hereunto annexed represents, Together with all and singular, the rights, members, herditaments and appurtenances, to the said premises belonging or in anywise incident or appertaining, To have and to hold all and singular, the premises before mentioned unto Henry Vaughan his heirs and assigns forever, And we do hereby bind against ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the said premises unto the said Henry Vaughan his heirs and assigns forever, against ourselves, our heirs, and against every person whomsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part therof.

Will, written in 1838 State of Alabama Monroe County In the name of God amen, I Isaac Jordan, of the county & state above written being of sound mind and memory but knowing the uncertainty of this life do make and ordain this to be my last will and testamentin manner and form following that is to say to my executors herein-after named I hereby leave care and guardianship to my six slaves Rebecca, Clarisa, Susan, Isham, Louisa and Elionetta and inasmuch as from many considerations I am desirous to free the said slaves Rebecca, Clarisa, Susan, Isham, Louisa and Elionetta which unconditionally? the laws of this state will not permit and as the policy of thisstatemay change I hereby enjoin it upon my said executors at the firstfavorable oportunity to emancipate and free the said slaves Rebecca, Clarisa, Susan, Isham, Louisa and Elbernetta so that they may always remain in the state of Alabama and to effect and secure which I do hereby declare that said slaves Rebecca, Clarisa, Susan, Isham, Louisa and Elionetta are so far as my act can make them wholly emancipated and set free from the bonds of slavery. It is further my will that tosecurethe maintenance of said slaves that all real and personal property thatIshall be in possession of at my death not hereinafter disposed of consistingin part of lands, slaves, horses, cattles, hogs, notes and accounts either in this county and state or any other be and the same are hereby begranted to my said executors to be worked?, managed, hired, or rented by my executors shall think best for the support of my said slaves Rebecca, Clarisa, Susan, Isham, Louisa and Elionetta, and it further my willthat all my slaves not above mentioned by name with all my lands, Stock and all other property in my possession or in anywise belonging to me beand the same are hereby beqeathed to my said executors for them to manage and dispose of as they may? think best? for the ___ conditions that itbe applied for ____ effort? or benefit of said slaves Rebecca,Clarisa,Susan, Isham, Louisa and Elionetta and it is further my will and request? the said Rebecca, Clarisa, Susan, Isham, Louisa and Elionetta, either? of them have ____ or desendants that they be freed in like manner herein before prescribed and receive their support as afforesaid, I do further bequeath to ISAAC BAXTER JORDAN for the great love I have for him, now of Monroe County one negroe girl slave named and called Cardine to him and his heirs forever. It is further my will and desire that my said executor sell or ____ from my said effects the amount of one hundred dollarsand divide the the same equally among my HALF BROTHERS and SISTERS or such of my lawful heirs as shall in any wise be entitled to claimthesame. For the great love I have for them it is further my will and desire that should I be in debt at my death that my said executors will a sufficient sum of money to discharge all just claims against me either from the proceeds of the crops or by renting, hireing out, or selling a sufficient quantity of property to discharge my debts. And it is further my will that my executors endeavor to keep all my property so far as consistent together for the support of my said slaves Rebecca, Clarisa, Susan, Isham, Louisa and Elionetta are free and that any act of my executors over them except that may be essential to their management and guardianship shall in no wise extend to enslaving them in any way whatsoever but that the said executors are hereby authorized and requested in consideration of my great confidence in them to persue the intent of my said will and effect the total emancipation of said slaves Rebecca, Clarisa, Susan, Isham, Louisa and Elionetta by complying with the condition of the law so soon as it can be effected and I do hereby ordain my friends William R. 11 Nov 1844 Of the within? will? and being duly sworn on oath says that hissignature to the preceding will is geniune that the other witnesses to thiswillhave departed this life and that their signatures are geniune and that tothebest of the afforsaids recollection and belief the said Isaac Jordansignedthe same in the presence of these witnesses and that these witnessessigned the same in the presence of the said Isaac Jordan and in the presenceof each other. Agee who being duly sworn on oath says that he saw Isaac Jordan sign within his last will and testament, that the said Isaac Jordan signed the same in the presence of the witnesses whose names are attached to the same and that the said witnesses signed the same in the presence of the said Isaac Jordan and in the presence of each other. It appears to the satisfaction of the court that the whole amount ofcashfunds received by the executor since his cost settlement is two thousand two hundred & ninetyfour13/100 dollars, and that the amount properly places to his credit, including the balance (and interest)dueat his last previous settlement is three thousand seven hundered & fifty 57/100 dollars, still havingabalance in his favor of fourteen hundred & eighty six 57/100 dollars. It is therefore ordered and decreed that this statement do stand asthejudgement of this court, and that the said executor be authorized to retain the said sum of fourteenhunder& eighty six 57/100 dollars out of any assets in his hands. It is therefore ordered & decreed that said sale be in all respects confirmed & established and that the said Wm R Agee Excr as aforesaid be & he is is hereby authorized & empowered to convey to the said purchasers respectively all the righ title interest which the said decd had in and to the said lands at the time of his death.
Court of Probate - Monroe County, Alabama - July 1852 - Page 416 & 417 Estate of Isaac Jordan (decd) This day came William Turner, Arthur Turner, Everet Turner, Harriet Giddens wife of John Giddins, Mary Giddins wife of Edward Giddens children of Susan Turner decd said Susan Turner being the half sister of said Isaac Jordan decd and Mary Garnett, Susan Turner wife of Everett Turner, Frances Bratcher wife of Isaac Bratcher, Isabella Corbet, wife of David Corbet, Celia Jackson and Rebecca Jackson children of Tyre Jackson decd who was the half brother of said Isaac Jordan decd there attorney, the same having been appointed by continuance for the hearing of there petition heretofore filed representing themselves as heirs at law of the estate of Isaac Jordan and praying to be made parties to the petition of the executor for a sale of the real estate of said decd also ??? Wm R Agee executor of said estate by attorney and his testimony having bee heard and examined. It appears to the satisifaction ofthecourt that said petitioner above named are heirs at law of said Isaac Jordan decd It is therefore ordered & decreed by the court that they be made parties defendent to the said petitioner for the sale of the said belongings to said estate ? the said petitioners having here to for in ? court by this ? ? that are ? for the sale of said land be granted according to the petition of said executor. It is there for? ordered that the said order be? granted for the sale of said land be & the same is here by conformed and the sale under said order is here by declared good & and valid the said petitioners by their council in open court ??
