Britton Mercer Wood
Britton Mercer Wood, born December 8, 1927 in Dallas, passed away athishome in McKinney June 12, 2004.
After graduating from North Dallas High School, he served in the USCoastGuard from 1945-1947. He married Wanda Harding of Dallas onNovember 22,1951 at Highland Baptist Church.With his parents andbrother, he ownedand operated E. M. Wood Sign Company in Dallas. Whileliving in Dallas,he was a member of Lake Highlands Baptist Churchwhere he served as adeacon and chairman of the finance committee.After moving to McKinney in1991, he and Wanda joined the First BaptistChurch. Also during thistime, he began assisting Keith Francis in hisjail ministry at CollinCounty Justice Center.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Maurice and FrancisWood.Cherishing his memory in their hearts are his wife Wanda, hisdaughtersTeresa Horn and Sharon Wood, his sons-in-law Michael Horn andTomLankford, his grandchildren Britton and Leah Lankford, Jordan andChadFreytag, and Rachael Horn, his brother Maurice Wood andsister-in-lawCamille Wood, his sister-in-law Edna Strickland, hissister-in-law JennieMatthews, his brother-in-law Will Matthews, andmany nephews and nieces.
He will be remembered for his great love of the Lord, of his familyandfriends, and of life itself. He saw beauty and goodness in all ofus andwe each felt embraced in love through his smiles, his countlessphonecalls, and his warm hugs.
His family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 15 from 6 p.m. to 8p.m.at Restland Funereal Home on Greenville Avenue in Dallas. Thecelebrationof his life will be on Wednesday, June 16 at 10 a.m. atFirst BaptistChurch, 1615 W. Louisiana, McKinney. Graveside serviceswill follow atRestland Memorial Park. Rev.
