- Elsie Braegger Garner
Elsie Braegger Garner gently left this frail existence on Saturday,Feb.5, 2005. She was the fourth child born to John George Braegger Jr.andElsie Lofthouse. She was born May 27, 1927, in Willard, Utah. ShemarriedDon C. Garner, Dec. 28, 1948, in Elko, Nev. They laterdivorced. Fromthis union two children were born, a daughter, Elsa DawnPitcher (Ralph)of Lewiston, and son Dan William Garner. She graduatedfrom theUniversity of Utah and worked at Salt Lake County Hospital,Montana andMcKay Dee hospitals retiring as director of nursing at StarValleyHospital.
In the '50s she was one of only two nurses in the western UnitedStateswho knew how to run the Bird Respirator when the polio epidemichit,leaving her on call 24 hours a day to train nurses and doctors alloverthe West how to run the respirator. She is survived by herdaughter,Dawn, and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death byher son, DanWilliam; parents; a sister Beth; and two brothers Roy G.and James E.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9, at noon in theWillard4th Ward chapel, 195 N. 200 West, Willard, Utah. Friends andfamily maycall at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E. 400 North, Logan, onTuesday eveningfrom 6 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from10:30 to 11:30 a.m.Interment will be in the Willard Cemetery.Condolences may be extended tothe family online atwww.nelsonfuneralhome.com.
