- Baptized at Roxbury 18 April, 1652.
He was admitted a freeman at Portsmouth, R. I., in May 1674, but was at Freetown as early as 1679, where he was chosen surveyor 2 June 1685 and constable in June 1686 (Plymouth Colony Records, vol. 6, pp. 167, 187).
He was chosen assessor there in 1691, and was a selectman in 1698, 1699, and 1705. On 6 Mar. 1705 [1705/6] he was appointed guardian of his granddaughter Sarah Makepeace. He and his wife joined theFirstSabbatarian Church of Newport, R. I., 17 Apr. 1717.
In his will, dated 6 Sept. 1730, he bequeathed to his sons Benjaminand Walter his lands in Freetown, to his grandson Benjamin Grinnell his 40-acre lot in Middleborough, to his daughter Bethiah Dunham one-half of a lot in Middleborough and a cow, to his daughter Philippe Hathaway and his son-in-law Jacob Hathaway land in Freetown, excepting a lot 3 rods square which was to be reserved for a burying place, to hisdaughterPhilippe œ20 and the furniture that he had moved to hisson-in-law'shouse, to his granddaughter Sarah, wife of Isaac Hathaway, one cow, and tohisgrandchild Daniel Grinnell 5s.
