Key notes from his diary: On 2 February, 1769 he removed, along with his family from Catherwood Creek in Pittsylvania County, Virginia up to the mountains on the headof Smiths River in the same county. It was noted that he made 4 cropsthere.
March 26th 1773: Removed my family from the head of Smith River over the mountain tothe mouth of Indian Creek and cropt there with John Elswick and Jonathan Morgan.
October 1773: Removed up to Nathaniel Finches Plantation and lived there five years.
February 20, 1778: Then removed to Henry Skaggs plantation February 20, 1778 then cropt there two years.
1781: Removed to Edmond Vaniels plantation and then to the head of the Shugar Run December 178____.
