Garner, Emma Lee
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Hermosa Church of Christ for Emma Lee Garner of Artesia. Garner, 81, passed away on Oct. 2 in Las Cruces. Services will be conducted by Rev. Owen Morrow of Hermosa Church of Christ. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery. Born on Dec. 25, 1919, in Muleshoe, Texas, she moved to Artesia in 1940 and married Robert C. Garner on Jan. 28, 1941. Garner received her bachelors degree in 1968 and her masters in 1974 from Western New Mexico University. She taught fourth grade at Hermosa Elementary School for 16 years and also taught at Roselawn Elementary and Loco Hills Elementary. She was also a member of the Hermosa Church of Christ, Delta Kappa Gamma, NEA-NM and the Association of Educational Retirees. Survivors include one brother, Charles Gleghorn and wife Dorothy o fArtesia; one sister, Dorotha Dale 'Dot' Bunch of Carlsbad; two daughters, Lana Daniell and husband Dean of Tahoka, Texas, and Barbie Nicholas and husband Nick of Albuquerque; two sons, Critt Garner and wife Mary of Las Cruces, and Tim Garner and wife Kate of Silver City; 17 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews; and numerous friends and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Theron Gleghorn, one sister, Eloise Gracie, one grandson, Michael, and one nephew, Toby Gleghorn. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Ms. Garner's name to the New Mexico Alzheimer Association, 1100 South Main, Suite 10, Las Cruces, N.M., 88005.
