Eugene "Gene" Boyd Hoover
1925-2004
Eugene Boyd Hoover of Springfield died Aug. 4 of cancer. Mr. Hooverwas78.
He was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Dublin, Texas to James and Jessie(Strong)Hoover.
He married Allie Jo Birdwell in 1947 in Carlsbad, N.M. HemarriedCharlene Jeffers April 30, 1988, in Reno, Nev.
He lived in Grants Pass from 1959 to 1979 and in Springfield since1974.He grew up in West Texas. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII inthe SouthPacific. He worked as a superintendent for a highwayconstruction companyand built roads all over the West. His interestswere the lodge, bowling,and golf. He was very active in the EugeneEagles. He was past presidentof the local lodge, past state presidentand past northwest regionalpresident.
He is survived by his spouse; daughter Carrol Oyler of Grants Pass;sonMick Hoover of Eugene; stepdaughter Jackie Hoffman of Veneta;stepsonWilliam Roberts of Springfield; stepson Eric Foote ofSpringfield; sisterFrieda Taylor of Sacramento, Calif.; sister PansieWaldrip of Rui Doso,N.M.; nine grandchildren and fourgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded indeath in 1981 by his firstwife.
A memorial service is planned at 10 a.m. Aug. 12 at SpringfieldMemorialFuneral Home. Private inurnment is at Springfield MemorialGardens.Contributions may be made to the Eugene Eagles. SpringfieldMemerialGardens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
