- CHAMBERS, MARY VERONICA "Vi" May 21,1921 - Nov. 23, 2003 "Vi" - asshewas known to friends and family, was born on May 11, 1921 inMobridge,South Dakota to Charles Paschen and Mary Ferguson Paschen.She ispreceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lawrence M.Chambers. Sheretired from Federal Civil Service in 1979 after workingas AssistantComptroller for the 11th Naval District. Vi was a memberof TheNinety-Nines, Inc., El Cajon, CA Chapter, an organization ofwomenpilots, and Silver Wings, San Diego, CA Chapter. A talentedaviatrix, sheflew in various air races as a pilot or navigator. Heraviationadventures included the Powder Puff Derbys, the Angel Derby toManagua,Nicaragua, the Palms to Pines Air Race, and the many PacificAir Races,for which she served a number of years as the chairwoman andorganizer.Other interests included golfing - she was justifiably proudof havingshot a "hole- in-one" at Singing Hills Golf Club - as well asplayingbridge, boating and traveling throughout the United States. Sheissurvived by two daughters, Diane R Nicol (Alton) of ColoradoSprings, CO.and Gail F. Cooper (Richard) of San Diego, CA. Fourgrandchildren, ToddSoens, Brandon Cooper, Traci Gagnon, Amy Guillenand six great-grandchildren. Vi passed away November 23, 2003 at thePikes Peak Hospiceand Palliative Care Center in Colorado Springs, CO.There will be aprivate memorial service.
